Democracia transnacional en Ecuador: el impacto del voto en el exterior y la representación migrante

Abstract

En el escenario global, Ecuador se distingue como uno de los pocos países que reconoce a sus ciudadanos en el extranjero el derecho al voto y la posibilidad de elegir representantes migrantes en la legislatura. Esta expansión de los derechos político-electorales tiene el potencial de incidir en múltiples dimensiones de la democracia ecuatoriana. En este artículo, abordamos esta cuestión a partir de un análisis fundamentado en evidencia empírica, examinando los efectos del sufragio en el exterior y la reserva de escaños legislativos en relación con la calidad democrática, la representación política y los avances tecnológicos. A partir de ello, sostenemos que estos mecanismos contribuyen a la integración de sectores históricamente excluidos, al fortalecimiento de la democracia y a la ampliación del concepto de ciudadanía.
