Abstract

This research analyzes how upper secondary education (EMS) admission mechanisms in the Mexico City Metropolitan Area (ZMCM) influence the construction of students’ educational expectations. It aims to understand how these mechanisms shape transition experiences that result in unequal expectations regarding education. It was found that, depending on the way they entered upper secondary education, students strengthened or reconsidered their expectations. The results seek to contribute to the current debate surrounding changes to public education admissions at this level in Mexico and their potential impact on the distribution of educational opportunities.
