Abstract

Agri-food policies in Latin America aim for self-sufficiency in staple grains to improve food security and reduce dependence on imports. In Mexico, a policy promoting the production and storage of corn and beans is implemented, which focuses on the use of native crops. This requires analysis, as Mexico is the main center of origin for corn and beans. Therefore, an exploratory study with a territorial approach was conducted to identify the characteristics of corn and bean production in two municipalities of Morelos. The results reveal elements that can complement the current policy to address the sector comprehensively, considering agrobiodiversity, the environment, and the participation of the local community.
