NÚMEROS Y POLÍTICA. CONTAR EN LA CIENCIA POLÍTICA LO QUE CUENTA

La cuantificación, en sus diversas modalidades, es una tendencia que ha tomado fuerza en los últimos años en la cien- cia política. Bajo ciertas condiciones es indispensable; sin embargo, ninguna cuantificación es consistente si no se parte de una buena conceptualización. Utilizando ejemplos clásicos del uso de los números en la disciplina, en este artículo se argumenta que siempre es necesario explicitar los criterios con los cuales se utilizan los números y se procede a la cuantificación, así como la importancia de justificar y demostrar su relevancia y superioridad respecto de otros criterios puramente cualitativos.
