Enfermedades emergentes transmitidas por el mosquito Aedes aegypti entre la población maya de Yucatán: vulnerabilidad, percepción del riesgo y modelos de atención

Analizando etnográficamente los brotes epidémicos de dos enfermedades vectoriales emergentes (chikungunya y zika) entre la población maya del oriente de Yucatán durante los años 2015 a 2017, indagamos la influencia de dos variables (percepción del riesgo y modelos de atención) en la vulnerabilidad de esta población a dichas enfermedades. Concluimos que la vulnerabilidad fue resultado de que los riesgos percibidos por los mayas, al no ser reconocidos ni atendidos por el sistema de salud, fueron resueltos por ellos mismos a través de los medios a su alcance, principalmente un precario sistema de autoatención.
