Este ensayo interpreta y discute el pragmatismo, la melancolía y la irracionalidad como tres formas adaptativas de la izquierda al cambio social y el declarado triunfo ideológico de la democracia liberal. ¿Cómo seguir siendo de izquierdas en una época de grandes transformaciones políticas y culturales bajo un modelo económico neoliberal? Esta es la pregunta en la que el ensayo indaga. Los dilemas de la izquierda frente a este desafío acrecientan los problemas de representación democrática.
